ELEN, la Xarxa Europea per la Igualtat de les Llengües (European Language Equality Network), l’organització europea que treballa per promoure i protegir les llengües minoritzades a Europa, desitja expressar la seva consternació amb l’Estat espanyol en els judicis polítics contra Carme Forcadell i els membres de la Mesa del Parlament català per tenir un debat parlamentari sobre els plans per independència.
La democràcia no és un crim, no és un crim parlar o votar en un Parlament i no és un crim parlar sobre la independència.
El Tribunal Constitucional espanyol també ha violat el principi de la immunitat parlamentària quan la seva obligació és garantir el dret dels representants elegits lliurement per debatre i votar per a l’exercici de les seves funcions.
Durant 60 anys, els valors sobre els quals es basa la Unió Europea no han canviat: la pau, la llibertat, la tolerància, la solidaritat, el respecte a la diversitat, els quals actuen per unir-nos.
En aquest Dia d’Europa de 2017, l’Estat espanyol s’ha desautoritzat a sí mateix, permetent processos contra representants electes catalans, i amb aquest acte, trair els nostres valors europeus comuns.

ELEN Communication on the trial of Catalan Parliament President Carme Forcadell.
The European Language Equality Network, Europe’s organisation for minoritized languages, wishes to express its dismay with the Spanish state at the politically motivated trials of Carme Forcadell and members of the Bureau of the Catalan Parliament for having a parliamentary debate on plans for independence.
Democracy is not a crime, it is not a crime to speak or to vote in a Parliament, and it is not a crime to plan for independence.
Furthermore, the Spanish High Court has also violated the principle of parliamentary immunity when its obligation is to guarantee the right of elected representatives to debate freely and to vote in order to exercise their duties.
For 60 years, the values on which the European Union is built have not changed: peace, freedom, tolerance, solidarity, respect for diversity, all of which act to unite us. On this Europe Day of 2017 the Spanish state has disavowed itself by allowing proceedings against elected Catalan representatives, and by this act betraying our shared European values.
